SmartLog for Windows - Software NMEA Data Logger
The software logger is ideal if you already use a PC on board whilst at sea, as it not only logs data but also gives you useful plots at the same time. It is designed to co-exist with your chart plotter very easily - the incoming NMEA data will be shared seamlessly with your chart plotter, with no need to change any hardware interfacing or reconfigure any settings in your other software.
The software simply receives all of the incoming NMEA data, and decodes GPS and depth information. Depth is shown on a time track, and your track is shown against a coastline. You can also see a table of decoded data, and the stream of incoming NMEA data. Data is saved on your hard disk, and once ashore you can either upload it directly to the web server from the program, or you can upload it via the web site, which lets you copy the data to a USB memory stick to upload from a different computer. The software logger is available as a free download to any registered user of the web site, and is a useful tool for viewing, logging and diagnosing NMEA installations. Unlike the hardware logger, there are no restrictions on who can download and use the logger. If you wish to participate in the TeamSurv project and upload data, then you do need to register as a logger, but we will accept all users for this so long as they have the necessary equipment to log the data.
